Today, we look at many different things happening in the Cancer space, with people fighting for Cancer via carrying out fundraising activities. We also want to share some stories about people infected with certain forms of Cancer fighting for relief. Cancer is often thought of as an invisible disease and today, we drill deeper to see what is happening around the world. Given that Cancer is one of the top few incurable diseases in the world (CuraHOPE, 2017), this is definitely a disease we want to fight against for the foreseeable future.

Cancer news 29 August 2017 – micro fundraising for Cancer and perils of capitalism

  1. Brain Cancer Research Event Raised Half A Million Dollars

In a quick feature on KSHB, close to 5,000 people raised around half a million dollars for brain cancer research. The funds raised are intended to go towards research and development for the neurology field. What is astonishing in the article was the figure of 600,000 people in the US living with brain or nervous system tumors and half a million is hardly enough to find true cures.

  1. Men For The Cure, A Decade Old Fundraising Event To Help Sufferers With Breast Cancer

In perhaps another inspirational story being shared, Men for the Cure was started by a bunch of friends who wanted to remember a friend’s wife who died from Breast Cancer. It started as a small gathering of men enjoying drinks and food, with cigars and speakers and a live auction to raise money. It has since morphed into something bigger and raised more than US$1.5 million to fund Breast Cancer programs and research at University of Colorado Hospital.

  1. The Emotional Turmoil Of Dealing With Breast Cancer

Even after beating Breast Cancer, many women still feel fear and anxiety from potential relapses. That fear forms an invisible scar, and highlight the traumatic feelings sufferers of Cancer often feel after beating the disease. Unless a fundamental cure is found, some sufferers will always feel overwhelmed by their diseases, both chronic and incurable. Education in this case, does plenty to alleviate extreme concerns.

  1. Budget Airline Ryanair Refuses To Refund Ticket Despite Person Contracting Cancer

In one of the most uncompassionate display of corporate capitalism, Ryanair has refused to refund ticket to person who underwent surgery for Bowel Cancer, citing terms and conditions being accepted prior to purchase. Paul Starbuck was the unfortunate victim in this situation as he was not able to travel, and yet was also unable to refund his tickets despite contracting a dangerous disease such as Cancer.

While there are good things happening around the world, there are also bad things happening. At CuraHOPE, we wonder if the day people will band together to find for true cures will realize, as not many people are fighting, and as the fight drags, it becomes extremely tiresome. However, the flame in us will not fade, we will move slowly and surely, covering everything about the medical industry and the different conditions, one step at a time.
