In a particularly noteworthy moment for rapper Pitbull, he has sent his own private plane to Puerto Rico (which is currently being ravaged by hurricane) to transport patients who are suffering from Cancer to the US for Chemotherapy treatments.

The hurricane which devastated the Carribean island, also known as Maria, resulted in massive power outages and half the city’s population without drinking water. The healthcare facilities in the island were also destroyed, with less than 20% of the hospitals operating with fuel and power.

Deaths in intensive care units

There has been growing fatal casualties due to a lack of power and electricity keeping and maintaining life in the hospitals. In San Juan, two people died after the hospital ran out of diesel and another hospital, San Jorge Children’s Hospital has to continue relying on generators and batteries to sustain the lives of more than 12 children according to CNN.

In an act of great empathy and compassion, Pitbull has been ferrying Cancer patients to US for medical treatments. It is not often that we see acts of compassion on a similar scale and we are greatly heartened by this movement. We will continue to pray for the residents of Puerto Rico in the meantime.
